School Visits & Events

As a former teacher, I love speaking with kids about the writing process. I am available for presentations, workshops, or writing residencies, and I will gladly put together a program that fits your needs.

If you are interested in booking me for a school or library visit or event, please read my Author Visit Guide, which has my rates and presentation options, then contact me to inquire about availability.

Please note that I have been fingerprinted and background checked as part of the TSA Precheck program. Due to my busy schedule, I am unable to grant individual districts’ requests for special background checks or insurance policies.

Virtual visits

My 45-minute Skype presentations are similar to my in-person author visits and writing workshops. I begin with a 25-30 minute presentation on the writing process, providing opportunities for interaction. I discuss where to find inspiration, show readers my writing notebooks, talk about first drafts and revision, and speak about the publishing process. This follows with 10-15 minute of Q and A with students. These sessions are available to all schools, libraries, and home-school groups.

Cost: $350

Please contact me to inquire!

Complimentary 15-minute Skype Q and A Sessions

A limited number of complimentary 15-minute Skype Q&A sessions are available if your class, grade, or school has read The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street. Please contact me to inquire about availability.

We were delighted to have Karina work with our 4th grade students as our 2023 Dorothy Carter Writer-in-Resident at Bank Street School for Children. So many wonderful things to say about her! As a former teacher, Karina worked beautifully with our students. She was very prepared and distilled some fairly complex ideas into accessible, kid-friendly concepts. More importantly, Karina taught our students how to mine their words for creative writing ideas and really sparked their imaginations!

Karina did an amazing virtual event with My Very Own Library and Bookelicious! It was fabulous! Everyone was so impressed by her ability to connect with the audience in the virtual setting. Karina invited the students into her home in a way that made the kids feel like they were with a friend. The 1500+ students came away from her event feeling inspired and empowered.

Karina spent two days at the Gordon School as our 2022 Karla Harry Visiting Author and her ‘writing your story’ workshops dovetailed so beautifully with our students’ growing understanding of Windows, Mirrors and Sliding Doors. Whether you are seven, eleven or fifty- the worlds that Karina creates of familial and found family warmth in The Vanderbeekers series and A Duet for Home have students, faculty and families clamoring for more.

We are still experiencing the delicious reverberations of a Karina Yan Glaser visit. In larger presentation settings, classroom visits, and library workshops, Karina brought students to an understanding of an author’s day and specifically how to write authentic characters. Her engagement with students, parents, and caregivers is something that I will never forget.

Karina is a superlative presenter. She knows just how to blend an informative slideshow with exactly the right amount of kid (and grownup appeal.)
